Matthew Dodds is a senior defence, intelligence and technology leader: a former Royal Navy Principal Warfare Officer with a cv encompassing intelligence fusion governance and delivery, leadership of a hundred-person operational department at sea, and who has spent the past twelve years in the Gulf, leading operational training for the UAE Navy, taking C4ISR and maritime domain awareness solutions to regional government customers, and advising UAE national security academy on artificial intelligence.

Matthew's daughter Eleni — Lels, to her family — died in August 2024 after fighting bone cancer with extraordinary courage. She was twenty-one. Before she died, she asked her father to keep building guitars, to sell them, and to name them after her. He has kept his word.
Lels Guitars is his workshop in Abu Dhabi: electric guitars designed and built entirely by hand from solid timber — no CNC, no templates, no two alike. Eleven instruments and counting, each carrying Eleni's elephant motif, each taking months of patient, exacting work. One was made for Sir Roger Daltrey, in thanks for his kindness during Eleni's illness; at his suggestion it now lives at her school in Abu Dhabi. Twenty-five percent of the profit from every instrument goes to the Teenage Cancer Trust, in her memory.
